This is what I have been busy about since the start of holiday; Maple Story. As you have guessed, it's a free online game(well, not entirely free but keep on reading). Had been playing this game for quite a while now but stopped 3 months ago(schools & Studies) and recently started again since got
NBTD(holiday
ma).
What is this game all bout, well, first take the side scrolling, jumping and ladder climbing old time favourite Mario, the adventures, quests and character buildings of Diablo or Baldur's Gate and the cute factor of Ragnarok online and mix all these together. There you have it. A game for
boh liau gamer like me.
Although it's a 2D side-scrolling game as I mentioned earlier, it still needs a pretty decent graphic card to run on. I try to run it with a 8MB video memory graphic card but the graphic is horrible. Therefore, so that I could play this game on my desktop(P4, 1.7GHz, 256 SDRAM), I changed the 8MB graphic card into the old 32MB NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model64/ Model 64 pro and it did not slow down the game a bit. It only lags when Alt+Tab is pressed and when starting up the game.
What I like about this game is that first of all, it's free where unlike
some other game we know that need to be played on risky private servers in order for it to be FOC. The environment is nice with stunning backgorund and effects(clouds & mists). This is where the more powerful graphic is needed. And lastly, I had always been a sucker for RPG games. Oh and not to forget, you can
meet some really hot-chick playing this game interact with people from around South East Asia.
When you first start this game, you character are called "beginner"(Better than being called a n00b right?). Then after some point, you are given 4 choices of job; warrior, magician, thief and archer. When you reached level 30(its gonna take you quite sometime to reach this level. Believe me. ) you are again given an oppotunity to advance into another job class(eg: if you chosed to be a magician than you have to chose between being a wizard or a cleric. ). The next job advancement will be at level 70.
Currently, there are 3 worlds online(Aquilla, Bootes and Cassiopeia) in maplesea(where I played). I have a level 25 warrior in Aquilla and a level 31 cleric in Bootes. Aquilla is the oldest of these 3 worlds while Cassiopeia was just recently launched.
To start playing this game, all you have to do is register at the official website, download the game client from there and install it.This is all
free. You only need to pay REAL money when you want to buy some uber-cool equipments such sunglasses, cuztomizing your hair-style that it look like some
ah-beng, getting a battle scar on your face, or if you want to raise a pet.This is done by purchasing some sort of prepaid card from computer shops and stuff. (Im not really sure about this coz I've never spent a cent on this game apart from internet and electricity bills) If you have any firewall running, make sure it allows the game to run. There will be server update from time to time so don't worry when you cannot log on to the server.
